A software house that fell for stone.

HAS Watches is a project of dthas, an independent software development studio in Den Haag. The studio builds systems that run in production for years, trading platforms, identity brokers, self-hosted infrastructure, and it builds them the same way this watch is being built: precisely, or not at all.

The disciplines transfer more than you would expect. Tolerance stacking is tolerance stacking, whether the failure mode is a crashed service or a dial that cracks at 0.6 millimetres. An edition of ten is simply a system with ten users and no room for bugs.

Deniz Tan Hasdemir is a TU Delft Computer Science engineer, Turkish, living and working in the Netherlands. HAS carries his initials, and one deliberate signature: turquoise, the stone that is literally named for Turkey, will always have a place in an edition.

Why watches? Because they are the one machine people keep for decades and hand to someone else. Software is rewritten; a stone dial is not. Building one thing that outlives its maker's codebase seemed like a reasonable ambition.

Why only ten? Because ten is the number at which every owner is known by name, every stone is chosen by hand, and nothing has to scale.

The edition is designed in the open: decisions are written up in the journal as they are made. The list is a conversation, not a checkout; no money changes hands until a finished watch exists. Ten numbers, offered in list order.
